The Public Works Department is responsible for improving and maintaining the public infrastructure and assets within the City. The City's public infrastructure and assets include the following:

  • Roads and Bridges
  • Streetlights
  • Signals
  • Street Trees
  • Storm Water Collection System
  • Parks, Park Play Structures, Play Fields, Bathrooms, Park Trees
  • Wastewater Collection System
  • Water Pollution Control Plant
  • City Owned Buildings
  • City Owned Fleet Vehicles

Need a Permit?
The Public Works Department requires property owners and contractors to obtain a permit for any work that the is in or adjacent to the street or Public Right of Way, such as:  sidewalk/driveway work, fences adjacent to the sidewalk, underground work (also known as Street Openings), house moving and site grading. The encroachment permit required by Public Works may be in addition to the permit for the Building Department. Please feel free to call us at (510) 724-9010 for  questions.
